The Impact of Gratitude on Mental Health

The Wellness Team
Dear York Prep Community,

With the holiday season quickly approaching, feelings of both excitement and anxiety often occur. In this busy time, it is important to remind ourselves of the role gratitude plays in our mental health. Research suggests that people with higher levels of gratitude have enhanced resilience, helping them bounce back from highly stressful situations. Below are tips to cultivate gratitude this holiday season.

  • Write a thank you note to a family member
  •  Express your appreciation for that person's impact on your life.
  • Implement daily gratitude sharing
  • Challenge each family member to verbalize one positive aspect of their day.
  • Mindfulness meditation
  • Remain in the present moment by dedicating a few moments every day to focus on what you're grateful for.
  • Participate in a family service project
  • As a family, choose a volunteer opportunity to get involved in this holiday season.
  • Create a gratitude mantra
  • In moments of stress, go back to your mantra to center yourself.

Gratitude is all about the expression of appreciation. As always, our school counselors are available if you need support.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Warmly,
The Wellness Team
