Upper School
High School Courses That Foster Student Growth throughout grades 9-12
In order to help every one of our students achieve bright futures, York Prep has developed its own unique and highly specialized upper school curriculum. As a leading New York City prep school and one of the best high schools in New York City, we have designed our class structure to challenge and encourage each student to do his or her best in all areas of study, making sure that every child leaves York Prep thoroughly prepared for higher education.From English courses through Technology classes, York Prep teachers are personally invested in the academic growth of their students. In keeping with York’s emphasis on our Science, Technology, Engineering and Math curriculum, our STEM Lab and our technology electives are student-centered, project-based classes that teach students to set and achieve their own goals while pursuing their own creative interests. World language courses continue from the middle school curriculum and include Mandarin, Spanish, American Sign Language, and French.
Setting the Pace for a Rewarding College Career
York Prep students are placed into classes offering an appropriate level of challenge, which is decided according to their past performance, standardized test scores, and teacher recommendations. Once placed into their respective class levels, our students are then monitored to make certain that they are able to handle the demands of their coursework. This tracking system helps us ensure that every student gets the educational experience best suited to his or her needs.Over the course of their time at York Prep, our students gradually build the credentials and strong academic marks to enroll in the college of their choosing. Every year, dozens of York Prep graduates go on to enlist in some of the most prestigious college institutions in the United States. Our college acceptance list includes a diverse number of universities across the country.

The Writing Center
The York Prep Writing Center serves as a resource for upper school students to continue to develop their writing process as they receive one-on-one instruction from a faculty member. Students may make appointments with the Writing Center for help with a variety of assignments.

The Writing Center provides the following services and more:
-Help with what to write or how to begin a paper.
-Help with editing, revising, proofing, or polishing a writing assignment
-Help with how to write a winning college essay
-Help with understanding an assigned task, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, or writing more logically.
-Help with suggestions about where to send writing to become a published author
