York Prep Scholars Program
The Scholars Program is open to all York Prep students seeking an additional challenge. Faculty members teach classes they are passionate about, inspiring students to delve into niche topics or specific areas of study. Often, the content in these courses enriches their experience in regular classes. This past year, students could choose from over a dozen Scholars offerings, including Cartography and World Building, Bad Blood: Taylor Swift Feminism, Making Poems (a poetry workshop), and more. These courses provide opportunities for students to apply their learning in classroom discussions. The courses meet once a week for 10 sessions.
The goal of the Scholars Program is to instill intellectual independence in students, enabling them to be challenged in unique ways. Senior Scholars can earn a Scholars diploma by working on a capstone project under the guidance of their teachers on a passion of their choice. Developing their passions at the high school level sparks a flame students will carry into their college years and beyond.
Fostering a genuine intellectual curiosity
The Scholars Program fosters genuine intellectual curiosity and cultivates a strong sense of inquisitive thinking. The aim of this program is to allow students to excavate new interests that may be dormant, and to dig deeper to hone their curiosities in a variety of fields and topics. Students are encouraged to take charge of their own learning.
Enrollment in the Scholars Program involves an application process. Requirements for participation in the Scholars Program include an 85 or higher average overall and the successful completion of at least one Honors-level course each year.
