Throughout his 30 plus year career as an arts educator, Gary Schwartz has enjoyed teaching children in K-12th grades, at Manhattan’s finest independent schools, how to draw, paint, sculpt, weave, make prints, create computer graphics, photograph, and study the history of art. Mr. Schwartz has acted as advisor, mentor, set designer, gallery curator, and curriculum council member.
In addition to his work as an art teacher, he is also a widely exhibited painter, photographer, and commissioned portraitist. His works are in private collections from New York to Texas to Australia. Mr. Schwartz is also an avid traveler having recently returned from Rome which, next to his hometown of New York City, holds a very dear place in his heart. So much so, that he’s creating a series of gallery pieces based on his latest trip. These works will be 20” x 20” acrylic paintings on wood panels. All of his paintings begin as Photoshop renderings using his own digital photography.
He grew up in Coney Island, New York where his father was the manager of the Nathan’s Famous hotdog emporium from 1964-1968. This amusement park imagery features prominently in many of his paintings. He currently lives in Brighton Beach, five blocks from where he grew up
