Math Driven Theme Parks

A new plot of land has opened up and the town is looking for a new theme park! However, before construction can begin, the town board needs to see a design plan of the new park. That’s where you come in… the developers, Brodsky & Co., have asked you to submit your ideas for how this creative, whirling- twirling, mind-blowing, scrumdiddlyumptious theme park should look!
Your job is to create the theme park of your dreams with the hope that Brodsky & Co. will pick your design for the new park. Your park must include:  rides/games, concession stand(s), bathrooms, etc.  You must also include: a map with a legend/key, a brochure advertisement, and a cost sheet.

Ms. Brodsky’s sixth-grade math students created their own theme parks by first filling out brainstorming sheets to figure out what kind of theme park they would build. They then created a map and key of their parks, utilized graphic organizers to sketch out each one of their rides and games while also describing the features of the rides and objective of the games. A graphic organizer was used to sketch out and write a menu for their concession stands.

Students decided what they wanted one square unit to be in feet and used their math skills to calculate the area and perimeter for each ride and attraction, as well as the costs of concrete, grass, water, fencing, and the total costs. Students created a creative and detailed brochure to advertise their wonderful theme parks!
