By the time seven o’clock rolled around on the evening of Thursday, December 4th, the curtain was already pulled back and the house lights went down in the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater on 64th Street. York Prep was ready for the opening night of its 2014 fall theatrical production, the musical, Underground.
With music and lyrics by Mr. Thomas Hodges and the book written by Mr. John Viscardi, Underground, gives a brief glimpse into the life of a young girl and her mother who live (along with a great many other homeless people) in an abandoned subway tunnel under New York City. It’s a gritty tale about finding beauty in unexpected places, colored by friendship, family, love, and the danger of the third rail. Anyone who can appreciate beautiful voices and an amazing story should not miss this great show.
