Athlete: Isabella Arizin (Freshman)
Sport: Girls’ Varsity Volleyball
Highlights: Only freshman selected to York Prep’s 2009 Varsity Volleyball team
Isabella is the only freshman selected to play for York Prep’s 2009 Varsity Volleyball team. Her natural athletic ability, matched by her outstanding skills, made her an easy choice for the team and for this week’s Athlete of the Week.
Isabella’s success is the result of a lot of hard work. She started playing on the middle school volleyball team in 8th grade; in addition, she attended York Prep’s pre-summer volleyball camp as well as two volleyball summer programs and the pre-season team selections.
Isabella has excellent fundamental skills, especially setting, and has developed into an amazing hitter. “We had high hopes for Isabella coming into the season but she still managed to surprise us with how strong she became over the summer and far exceeded our expectations,” said Coach Durnford. “Not only did she show us that she has impressive skills but she also has a great attitude and an amazing work ethic. It can be a little intimidating to be the newest and youngest player on the team, but Isabella has done a great job making a place for herself. We are expecting great things from her this year.”
When asked about the team and the upcoming season, Isabella said, “I think I’ll be nervous in the game, but I am excited to start playing. The other girls are all really good and it has been a little bit of an adjustment playing with them, especially getting used to everyone hitting. The team has won a lot and I hope we have another great year.”
Congratulations on being York Prep’s Athlete of the Week!
Isabella and the rest of York’s Varsity Volleyball team kick off their season on Wednesday against Dwight at York. Go Panthers!
