Sophie, a York Prep sophomore, has completed over 230 hours of community service working with children at Pier 40 Baseball Camp and autistic teens at a group home.
Sophie says her seven-week experience as a youth baseball camp counselor at a non-profit camp was a fun one – teaching younger children the fundamentals of baseball. “If you have a love for something like baseball,” said Sophie, “there is nothing greater than bonding with those who share that interest.”
Sophie also watched over and interacted with teens diagnosed with autism; it was unlike anything she had ever done. Connecting with children who have limited communication and social skills was a heart warming experience for her.
We congratulate Sophie, this month’s Featured York Volunteer.
