York Prep’s Model UN team has returned from participating in the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference in Philadelphia, sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania. A busy four days saw a team of 14 delegates working with nearly 3000 students from across the country and around the world to develop solutions to problems as varied as the regulation of cryptocurrency, global warming, and treatment of POWs. Some delegates even participated in historical or crisis committees that dealt with the Salem Witch Trials, the Trojan War, and the Yakuza in the modern age.
Special congratulations go out to Senior Joseph Duane, who earned a Verbal Commendation for his work as Lycaon, the Minister of Finance during the Trojan War. Whether or not they won awards, students emerged from the trip with a better understanding of the problems facing our world today and armed with some of the ideas and skills necessary to help overcome these problems.
