On June 13th, York Prep School welcomed over 500 alumni, administrators, and honored past faculty who were in attendance to honor Mr. and Mrs. Stewart on their celebratory 50th Anniversary of York Prep School. The opportunity for old and new friends to reconnect, celebrate, and share their York Prep memories, kicked off in York’s Panther Dome.
Founded in 1969 by Ronald and Jayme Stewart, it was their dream to educate students in a close and personal manner. Their goal was to establish a structured and compassionate private school that would stretch its students and enable them to achieve academic and personal success. York quickly distinguished itself by adopting ability-level groupings in order to optimize students’ academic achievements. This strategy continues to the present.
Originally located at 116 East 85th Street, York Prep opened its doors in September 1969 to 158 students, until an opportunity to take over a building on West 68th Street presented itself in 1997. Today, York has grown to encompass 350 students yearly and over 100 faculty and administrative members.
What started as a young couple’s dream is now a very solid reality that will continue past our 50th milestone and into many, many more years. Cheers to Mr. and Mrs. Stewart for such a prestigious celebration. We are immensely proud of our past 50 years and look forward to seeing what the next 50 will hold!
