York Prep Alum Go On to March Madness

For the second consecutive year, a York Prep graduate has played Varsity Basketball for a top-flight college team that made it to the N.C.A.A. Tournament’s Final Four (“March Madness”).

Last year, Griffin Hoffman (Class of 2009) played for Syracuse University, where he was awarded an athletic scholarship in his senior year after being a walk-on for the three previous years. This year, Tor Watts (Class of 2010) played for the University of Connecticut, winner of the National Championship.

Having two alums in the Final Four for two years in a row is an exceptional record for a school the size of York Prep.

Also last year, Shane Richards (Class of 2012) was voted Freshman of the Year in the Division I MACC Conference, where he was a leading scorer for the Manhattan Jaspers basketball team. This year, the Jaspers qualified to be one of the 64 teams in the nation in the N.C.A.A. Tournament.

York Prep is proud of its athletic program. The current year’s Boys’ JV Basketball team was undefeated and took their league’s title, and the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team won the league championship and made it to the New York State Tournament.Go Panthers!
