York Goes for the Gold

Faculty Advisers Leah Umansky and Danica Radeka are proud to announce that Genesis, York Prep’s student literary and art magazine has achieved a Gold Medalist status with All-Columbian Honors from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) for last year’s 2016 issue.  The following poems were praised by the CSPA judges for their “magnificent similes or metaphors:” “Panic Attack” by Samantha Newmark, “Waves” by Jenna Saevitzon, “Flowers” by Lizbeth Ramirez, “My Mind is a Moon” by Victoria Laboz, and “Molly and Me” by Henry Felsman.

Additionally, “Off by One” by York Prep Alumnus, Carlos Liam Bello was praised for its “logical rhyme scheme.”  The CSPA Crown Awards will be announced later this fall, as will the results of the National Council Teachers of English (NCTE) contest for student publications and the American Scholastic Association Annual Contest/Review (ASA) for school yearbooks and magazines. We look forward to hearing the results. Congrats to our hard-working staff for another terrific issue of Genesis. We look forward to another great year ahead!
