York Alumna Sydney Gomez, from the Class of 2013, has spent the past four years attending Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges. As an active and well-liked student during her time at York, Sydney’s teachers expected great things from her. Earlier this month she did just that. Chosen as a representative of the Class of 2017, Sydney had the honor of addressing friends at family at graduation.
Sydney sets a great example for students everywhere. Having attended York from the 6th grade, she participated in the Student Government Organization and Straight-Gay Alliance. Sydney also enjoyed playing multiple varsity sports, including soccer basketball, and softball. While in college, she became a William Smith Student Trustee, Artistic Director of Sankofa: Black Students’ Union, handled publicity for the Student Activities Office and acted as Chair for the Concert Advisory Committee.
Family and friends from across the country and around the world convened at Hobart and William Smith Colleges to celebrate! Featuring President Bill Clinton as the keynote speaker, the ceremony marked Hobart College’s 192nd Commencement and William Smith College’s 106th Commencement. Sydney gave the William Smith senior speech which you can also watch here (beginning at 1:36). And most noteworthy, is the fact that she even met President Clinton!
