York Alum High Scorer in NCAA March Madness Game

In the March Madness matchup between the Manhattan Jaspers and Hampton Pirates, York Alum Shane Richards was the high scorer of the night. On the evening of Tuesday, March 17, the Manhattan College junior scored a game total of 17 points, two more than the “Player of the game” on the opposing team. With a final score of Hampton 74 to Manhattan 64 in their First Four matchup, the Jaspers concluded their season with a 19-14 record as well as their second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title. In fact, the MAAC title win was considered an upset by most after Manhattan lost to Iona twice during the regular season. Undoubtedly, Richards played a valuable role in his team’s success, scoring eleven points in that championship game.

Shane Richards is already the leading three-point scorer for his team (88 three-pointers in this season alone) and was named the 2012-2013 MAAC Rookie of the Year.  The York community is proud to watch Shane’s progress since his time in the Pantherdome. While at York, Shane was two-time All-State selection and even named to the New York Post All-Manhattan First Team as a senior. After a career high of 46 points as a high school student and averaging 29.3 points in his senior year, it is no wonder Richards has done so well with the Jaspers. The York community congratulates Richards on a good game well played and looks forward to his next season!
