The York Prep Panthers claimed their first ever ISAL Varsity Baseball Playoff Championship yesterday in an 11-10 win over rival Birch Wathen Lenox. The game was a back and forth affair featuring plenty of offense from both teams. Jakob Friedman (10th) paced the Panthers with three hits and three RBI. Dylan Geiringer (12th) found his stroke with a home run and double. Asa Goodman (10th) provided timely hits and added two RBI. Still, with all of this offense a clutch pitching performance made all the difference. Rusty Gerber (11th) went 4 2/3 innings and pitched out of trouble in both the 5th and 6th innings to earn the win.
When asked about the game Coach Jon Serri responded, “Team effort. Every one of our guys invested in this game from start to finish and we learned something about what we can accomplish when we go after our goals.”
With only four graduating seniors the future is bright for Panther baseball. We’re all looking forward to hanging one more banner in the gym.
