Varsity Athlete Leads Camp for Middle Schoolers

Going to school in the summer is not something most students look forward to after final exams, but rising senior Charles Stevens is not your average high school student.  Having attended York since the eighth grade, Stevens has made a name for himself as a notable athlete in the school thanks to his contributions to the boys varsity basketball team. Along with his help, the team became the 2013 I.S.A.L. Champions during his freshman year and made it to the finals in this past season.

With his unquestionable love for basketball, Stevens took it upon himself to lead a week long summer basketball camp for middle schoolers this year. Last month, as other kids were traveling to beaches, parks, and other fun summertime locations, Stevens, his teammates Nick Mancuso, Nakai Kulik, Alec Kerdell, and junior varsity basketball players Tyler Hutton and Matt Chatzinoff gathered in the Pantherdome to pass on their love and knowledge of basketball to a small group of York Prep middle school athletes. According to basketball coach and physical education teacher Mr. Doug Hill, “Charlie did a great job running it for 5 hours a day,” and all of the kids who attended “had a great time and learned a lot.” Everyone looks forward to seeing just how well the lessons pay off when the 2015-2016 basketball season gets underway!
