Overcoming challenging rainy conditions throughout the spring, York Prep’s Girls’ Varsity Softball team went undefeated for the second consecutive year and triumphed in the championship game 9-8 against Garden School.
York so overwhelmed most of its opponents that five of seven games were concluded after five innings under the “mercy rule” because York already was ahead by 10 or more runs.
The team was led by team captains Anna Lieberman and Rachel Temple. Christina DeVito was impossible for opponents to hit with her pitching dominance. Christina, Marissa Velasquez, and Rebecca Siegel were proficient hitters, allowing York to score double-digit runs.
A superb group of juniors, sophomores, and freshmen rounded out the team, including Deanna Williams, Olivia Matticoli, Angelica Koch, Zoe Zarember, Sydney Gomez, Hannajane Prichett, Rosette Zarzar, and Cassie Mathelier.
Congratulations to Coach Kim Logana, Assistant Coach Brittany Richards, and the Girls’ Varsity Softball team for this season’s success!
