On Friday, April 27, the York Prep Athletic Department celebrated York Prep’s 33rd annual sports awards event. Called the “Breakfast of Champions” the event included a catered meal fit to start of any day. With plates full of pancakes, sausage, eggs, and bacon, our student athletes were honored for their sportsmanship, hard work, commitment and team work. Director of Athletics, Mr. Peter Bianco, hosted the event in the Pantherdome and acknowledged the school’s many impressive teams.
When the Fall Season came to a close, the Varsity Girls’ Volleyball Team finished the season one spot out of the ISAL Playoffs. The Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team made the playoffs for the first time in York Prep history. Competing hard but losing to Dwight in the first round of playoffs. The Boys’ Varsity Soccer Teasm just missed the ISAL Playoffs. The Cross Country Team competed with heart and passion. All of our Fall Sports Teams had a good season and are looking forward to the upcoming Fall 2018 to to improve.
During the Winter Season, the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team finished the regular season undefeated and went on to win the ISAL Championship for the first time in four years. They advanced to the NYSAIS tournament where they lost against The School of the Holy Child. The Boys’ Varsity Basketball team finished their regular season in fourth place and advanced to the ISAL Playoffs where they were defeated by Brooklyn Friends. York Prep also had one Winter Track runner qualify for the Federation Championships, for the second year in a row. Both Boys’ JV Basketball Teams had good years and look forward to building next year.
With a rainy start to the spring season, the Boys’ Varsity Baseball Team currently holds third place in the ISAL. The Varsity Golf Team is making strides throughout the season and the Boys’ Varsity Volleyball Team is currently third in the PSAA. The Varsity Track and Field Team continues to improve with each meet and, for the first time in recent history, the school is also fielding boys and girls teams for Varsity Tennis.
