Student Wins Award From Columbia Scholastic Press Association

Senior Joseph Beyda has been recognized by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, an international student press association with the aim of uniting student journalists and faculty advisers through educational conferences, idea exchanges, textbooks, critiques and award programs. Joseph’s poem “The Bagel That Caused Harm” won  for “Humor” writing at the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Gold Circle Awards for High School Print News/Magazines 2015.

The Gold Circle Awards are offered to recognize superior work by student journalists usually as individuals but sometimes as an entire staff working with either print or online media. This 32nd Gold Circle Awards program attracted 11,110 entries produced by students at colleges, universities and secondary schools throughout the United States. With thousands of individual pieces submitted to this prestigious competition, Joe’s submission was first place in his category.

Joe’s entertaining writing has previously been featured in York Prep’s literary magazine, Genesis. The school is incredibly proud of his budding talent and looks forward to seeing his work published elsewhere in the future!
