In a star-studded gala at the Kennedy Center Opera House on December 4, pianist Martha Argerich, Al Pacino, rock band the Eagles, and musicians James Taylor and Mavis Staples were commemorated at the 39th annual Kennedy Center Honors. Looking very presidential, Mr. and Mrs. Obama, were there as well, dressed up and ready to party. Also in attendance was one of our very own York Prep students.
Sophomore Taylor Weiss joined her family in attending the gala and was especially excited to meet President Obama. Their fantastic photo op with Mr. and Mrs. Obama was even more noteworthy. “My dad was directing the Kennedy Center Honors and invited my sister and I to attend,” explained Taylor. “With this invite also came the opportunity to go to the White house and meet the former President,” she added.
According the Taylor, it was “a one of a kind experience!” After being ushered through the White House and meeting President Obama, they were seated in the East room to listen to his speech about the honorees. “It felt unreal to stand in the same room as him,” Taylor admitted. “After his speech we attended the Kennedy Center Honors which was also quite the experience.” Surely it was the kind of memorable evening Taylor will recall fondly for quite a long time!
