It was a warm and sunny afternoon when 62 of some of York Prep’s finest students congregated at 10West 68th Street at Central Park West in preparation for their commencement exercises. Bedecked in blue caps and gowns, yellow tassels swaying with each turn of the head, the class of 2016 was ready to start a new chapter of their lives. On Wednesday, May 25, family and friends, teachers and classmates all gathered to celebrate the graduation of an exceptional group of students. Even recent York Prep graduates returned to encourage their former classmates and welcome them to the family of York Prep alum.
Former teachers and administrators also came to celebrate the day, to revel in the successes of individual students such as the National Honor Society inductees and Scholars Program graduates. Amid all of those acknowledgments, guest speaker Mr. John Flaherty and Headmaster Mr. Ronald Stewart encouraged the graduates to also look toward the failures, to learn and grow from them in the future. Their remarks also provided a heartfelt lesson on the importance of ones family and the benefits of their support. In the end it proved to be a beautiful day of celebration but, those who couldn’t attend did not necessarily miss out. Stay tuned to yorkprep.org for the full ceremony and photos coming soon!
