As they prepared to board the Atlantis for the York Prep 2016 Junior-Senior Prom, upperclassmen (along with their faculty chaperones) admired each other’s sharp suits and cute dresses, posed for photos, and shared some laughs. Docked at Pier 81 on the Upper West Side, the private luxury yacht Atlantis was decorated for the occasion with a fun nautical theme that reminded everyone of a beautiful night at the beach. After the initial flurry of paparazzi-like camera flashes and selfies, the group were ready to set sail for their cruise around New York City which included a delicious dinner, dancing and the delectable dessert and ice cream bar (always a big hit).
Luckily, the sea-faring weather on Saturday, May 14, was a partly cloudy 74 degrees making for quiet evening out on the Hudson. But the spirit of celebration was anything but quiet as students and teachers alike danced the night away to the sounds of the resident DJ, Kenny Swift. The party atmosphere was evident especially with this year’s addition of a karaoke machine! With three different decks, there was plenty of room for the nearly 200 guests to enjoy themselves, whether they were eating and dancing in the balloon-filled formal dining room on the first deck, lounging on the next level, or enjoying the 8:00 pm sunset and skyline views from the top, open air deck. It was definitely a memorable night and a great way to celebrate the end of the school year as it draws near!
