While the senior class was racing across the stage to collect their diplomas at graduation, junior Ben Kotran and sophomore Marshall Richardson were doing some running of their own representing York Prep’s track team at the NYSAIS Championship. On the morning of Wednesday, May 25 runners from private schools around the city gathered at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island to compete in over seventeen different events, including relays, long jumps, hurdles and the steeplechase.
While not Olympics bound just yet, Ben made the school proud by running an 11:29:21 2 mile race. His teammate Marshall made it to the 100 meter final and placed 5th, making that York Prep’s first time scoring in a NYSAIS championship! We’re all extremely proud of these boys as well as their coach, Mr. Erwin Bernal, and can only look forward to what the future of track at York will bring. Congratulations guys!
