York Prep’s 7th through 11th grade music classes hosted a winter evening concert on December 5 in the Christian Science Auditorium, celebrating songs in the modern music repertoire. Prior to the event, Mr. Thomas Hodges worked with his classes to choose songs they knew and would be interested in singing.
The complete ensemble opened the performance with a rendition of “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers. This was followed by the 7th grade singing “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey and “Waiting on the World to Change” by John Mayer.
The evening continued with the 9th grade singing “I Was Here” by Beyonce and a moving rendition of “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen sung by the 10th grade. The 11th grade sang the eleven o’clock number, Pink’s “Just Give Me A Reason,” and it was the 8th grade who closed the evening with a bang singing “We Will Rock You” by Queen mashed up with “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons.
Tenth grader Max said, “It was quite exciting to see so many York students engaging in a fun-filled performance. I look forward to future ones.” According to Evan, a fellow sophomore, “the music celebration was a fun and wonderful experience. It was great to see the York Prep community come together to celebrate the art of music.”
