Model UN Travels to the City of Brotherly Love

York Prep’s Model UN team has returned from participating in the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference in Philadelphia, sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania. A busy four days saw a team of 16 delegates working with nearly 3500 students from across the country and around the world to develop solutions to problems as varied as the regulation of UN Peacekeepers, the management of pollution in the developing world, and the spread of nuclear technology. Some delegates even participated in historical or crisis committees that dealt with the Chinese Civil War, infighting on the Nintendo Board of Directors, and the decision to declare independence at the Second Continental Congress.

Special congratulations go out to Senior Manny Demos, who earned a Verbal Commendation for his work on the Disarmament and International Security Committee, and to the team of Juniors Grant Paulus and Logan Spivack, who earned Honorable Mentions for their work in the Legal Committee. Whether or not they won awards, students emerged from the trip with a better understanding of the problems facing our world today, and armed with some of the ideas and skills necessary to help overcome these problems.
