Mini Camps Get Students in Shape for School

This 2015-2016 school year is off and running, literally. With the guidance of track coach and math teacher, Erwin Bernal, York Prep offered a four day preseason summer workout open to all students. Beginning on Monday, August 17, the school opened up its doors to those few students eager to learn some handy exercises and get a good workout before the start of the academic year. On each day there was a morning session for the middle school students (grades 6-8) and an afternoon session for the high school  students (grades 9-12).

The students who attended the camp engaged in several strength and agility building exercises, which included using a ladder to practice footwork, endurance running both in the gym and in Central Park, as well as core training in the school’s state-of-the-art fitness room. Most importantly, participants engaged with their fellow York Prep students. These young members of the York community made a commitment to build themselves as individuals, whether for the purpose  of preparing for fall sports team tryouts or simply for the chance to learn valuable skills for improving their health and fitness.

Each and every session was different from the one that preceded it. With the school year right around the corner, these students gave themselves a head start by jumping right into the fall semester. They all had a great week but will hopefully enjoy repeating the exercises and practices they learned  throughout the school year!
