ISAL Basketball Finals

This winter has proven to be a great season for basketball at York Prep. With a number of stellar student athletes recognized by their coaches and Athletic Director Mr. Peter Bianco, York’s Middle, Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball teams, for both boys and girls, have shown exemplary skill and sportsmanship. With the regular season at an end, the Boys Junior Varsity and Boys Varsity Basketball teams in particular have done a remarkable job, each taking the ISAL by storm.

In their last few games, the boys played hard and won consistently, bringing an immense panther pride to the entire school. On the evening of Thursday, February 4, the Junior Varsity boys beat Brooklyn Friends with a score of 57-50 at York while their Varsity counterparts beat Brooklyn Friends 66-58 on their own turf. Those two wins seemed to catapult the teams into the championships.

Afterwards, on Monday February 8, the Junior Varsity playoff game was held in the Pantherdome shortly after school at 4:30 p.m. with the support of family, friends and classmates in the stands.  The Junior Varsity Team won that match-up as well, scoring 69 points against LREI High School’s mere 43. The very next day, the Varsity team followed up with their own victory playing their semi-finals game against Churchill 58-54 at City College of New York.

In the end JV won their ISAL Finals 65-40 against Brooklyn Friends and Varsity won their ISAL Finals 63-58 against Birch Wathen Lenox.boys varsity isal champs
