IMPORTANT: Message from the Headmaster

Dear Parents and Faculty,

The tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, has shocked us all. Our hearts and prayers go to the students, parents, and teachers in that community who have suffered grievously.

Here at York, we are concerned that some students might be affected emotionally by this event; Dr. Reese, Ms. Rowe-Cosentino (our group counselor), and the administration will be available to see any student who wishes to talk to them. We will inform the students of this on Monday after exams, which will be held at their regularly scheduled times.

If you think your child is seriously impacted, then the Child Mind Institute (212-308-3118) is a wonderful resource for expertise and advice. They will certainly recommend that parents and school personnel acknowledge the worries of our young people and reassure them, if possible. This is a time for all of us to be available if a child wants to talk about their feelings on the tragedy.

You may notice that we will be adding a second guard at school as well as having lock down drills. This is such a sad time for families and schools everywhere as they watch, in disbelief, the unimaginable tragedy. As parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles, we hug our children a little tighter today.

Sincerely,

Ronald Stewart

Headmaster
