Girls Varsity Basketball Undefeated ISAL Champs

The 2017-2018 Girls Varsity Basketball Team has had an undefeated season. With every practice and game, the girls brought their talent, enthusiasm, hard work, and dedication to the court. Coaches Turcio and Fazio, as well as senior captains Maya Finard and Megan Igoe and junior captain Sahai Stevens, have developed a close knit team. The girls support and encourage each other constantly, making the atmosphere both on and off the court as positive as possible.

The Lady Panthers started their season off right: soundly defeating FASNY by over 30 points. By their second game, every girl was finding herself playing time. Thanks to their skill at stealing the ball, they dominated on defense. They were also able to move the ball quickly on offense to allow for a large number of scoring opportunities. For instance, in the first two games alone, sophomore Jennah DeGout was able to score 43 points!

In the ISAL Playoffs, the girls really proved their mettle by beating Brooklyn Friends 64-30 in the Pantherdome. They rode that high straight into the Championship game at Leman Manhattan yesterday evening. While it may have been Valentine’s Day, our Lady Panther’s showed their opponents that their only love was for the game. York Prep crushed Churchill 73-41, scoring the highest number of points in any of their games this season!

Next week they’ll go on to compete in the NYSAIS Tournament but for now we celebrate their amazing accomplishment thus far. Way to go girls! We’ll see you on the court!
