Our Girls’ Junior Varsity Volleyball Team had a sensational season. In only their second year, the girls won the Big Apple Conference Regular Season Championship and the Big Apple Conference Tournament Championship. The squad ended the campaign with a perfect record of 11 wins and 0 losses. Big wins of the season included contests against Brooklyn Friends and Lycée Français de New York. The team also competed in non-league games, beating Martin Luther High School, Staten Island Academy, and Heschel School.
Setting was the key to the team’s success. Consistent setting from Captain Hannajane Prichett and Rosette Zarzar allowed the team to run a smooth offensive. Front line hitters converting sets included Rachel Rosenzweig, Rachel Semyonov, and Lauren Biedel. Big servers Zoe Zarember and Captain Brittany MacLeod were especially effective at the service line all season. Future hitters include Galeana Fraiz, Zoe Anderson, and back row player Caroline Schultz. Julia Calaman, the only libero player in the league, was a terrific defensive specialist.
“The team had extraordinary unity and loyalty toward each other,” said Coach Hughes. “They were a team of great ladies, a team of fun and laughter, a team for all to remember as the 2010 Undefeated Champions.”
