Science teacher Dr. Nicole Grimes and History teacher Mr. Michael Roper led 14 high school freshmen on a whirlwind trek through two New York City boroughs on Saturday, May 4.
The group met at Grand Central Terminal, rode the No. 6 train to Canal Street, and walked over the Manhattan Bridge to Brooklyn. Pit stops included the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) neighborhood, Fulton Landing, Plymouth Church, and historic Brooklyn Heights.
Along the five-hour, four-mile walking tour, students learned about salient events in history with an emphasis on bridges, a topic covered within the physical science curriculum. The day concluded with a leisurely stroll over one of the city’s oldest and most treasured engineering feats–the Brooklyn Bridge.
