Like the 2014 blockbuster “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” the primates are taking over. Manhattan is under siege and it is up to a group of 8th graders to save the day. No this is not the start of a new science fiction novel but rather the story of a very fun and challenging field trip. Ms. Evelyn Rowe-Cosentino, school therapist and mentoring teacher, took her 8th grade class to Escape the Room Entertainment on Wednesday, January 11 in order to test their teamwork and problem solving skills.
Growing in popularity year after year, this “room” is a puzzle based team building activity in which you must work together and cooperate to problem solve. While it looks like any other ordinary room, it’s actually a mystery for which each group has only 60 minutes to find the hidden objects, figure out the clues and riddle it out to earn their freedom! In this particular puzzle ten monkeys escaped from the Central Park Zoo, and were destroying Manhattan while the animal rescue team (our 8th graders) were tasked with putting the monkeys back in their cages and saving the city.
Previously called “Monkey Mayhem,” the theme for Wednesday’s challenge “Manhattan Mayhem,” forced every student to utilize whatever unique qualities and abilities they each posses. While working as a team, problem solving, and ultimately escaping the room, the students and their chaperones all had a wonderful time!
