Congratulations to the Boys’ Varsity Basketball team on their win last night! Coming into the match up as the 10th seed in the C-Division of the NYSAIS Tournament, they played hard and eventually won 63-59 against the 7th seed, Bay Ridge Prep.
At half time, York Prep was barely holding on to a one point lead with a score of 24-23, the makings of an exciting but tight opening round of the 2016 tournament. By the end of third quarter however, Bay Ridge had managed to take the lead, and York found themselves trailing behind by five points with a score of 36-41. The final quarter saw a large amount of scoring for both teams but in the end it was York that went home victorious.
With less than 24 hours to rest the muscles and enjoy their win, the team is set to compete against an even more formidable competitor tonight. The Staten Island Academy Boys’ Varsity team was excited to earn 2nd seed in the tournament and have home court advantage in this quarterfinal game at the O.J. Buck Gymnasium of Staten Island Academy on Todt Hill Road.
If the underdogs in today’s match, our beloved Panthers, are able to beat out the Tigers they will face the winners of the Trinity v Lawrence Woodmere also happening this evening just a mile from York in the Dudley Maxim Gym on West 91st Street. So cheer on our boys as they put it all on the line tonight and congratulate them for going all the way to States this year. They have their sights set on making it to the Fieldston School gymnasium on Sunday, February 28 to take part in the Final match and ultimately bring home the championship. Let’s show them some #PantherPride!
