Soccer player Lena Washington and track runner Michael Lee are October’s Athletes of the Month!
The two have dedicated their time and energy to the fall athletic season, helping to build a sense of community in the school and boost spirit for their respective teams. These athletes have both done their very best to excel personally and help their teammates be the best they can be too. Athletic Director Peter Bianco, as well as the York Prep coaches, sing praises about October’s Athletes of the Month whose profiles are currently being displayed in the Pantherdome for the coming weeks.
With five years of soccer under her belt, Lena is the left center back of the girls varsity soccer team and one of the hardest workers on the team. This senior constantly and consistently, during every game and practice, gives it her all. Her fearless tackling skills and speed, made it tough for defenders to get around her this season. Lena could also always be counted on to try and pick her teammates up when the going got tough this fall. She is one of those players whom you can trust to win a ball, especially in a tight situation!
Michael came ready to run in the month of October and, with each and every race, seems to be getting faster. In October, he was just shy of breaking the 20-minute-mark, finishing seventh in the ISAL Championship Meet, third in the Churchill Invitational and qualifying for the NYSAIS Championship Meet on November 8. Michael helps others in practices and pushes them to new limits becoming a positive role model for the team.
