York Prep is proud to announce its spring musical, Annie Jr. Drama Director Maria Getz and Music Director Sheri Martucci-Cicero lead a talented cast, which includes veteran student actors as well as newly discovered performers.
Designed especially for young audiences, this shortened version of the full-length musical Annie written by Thomas Meehan, with lyrics by Martin Charmin and music by Charles Strouse, retains the same story and music that made this musical a staple of American culture. Set in Depression-era New York, Annie is a spirited red-headed orphan who longs to be rescued from an orphanage run by the mean Miss Hannigan.
Premiering on Broadway in April 1977, Annie earned seven Tony awards and won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. It became the third longest running musical of the 1970s with 2,377 performances. The inspirational “Tomorrow” is probably the best known song from the musical.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on both Wednesday, April 29, and Thursday, April 30.
