On the evening of Thursday, September 10, parents of York Prep’s senior class braved the rain and humid weather to attend the 12th Grade Parents’ College Night. After being greeted at the door by the head and associate head of school, the roomful of parents were also met by York’s college guidance duo, Mrs. Jayme Stewart and Ms. Janet Rooney. The pair used this informal event to provide parents with a basic guideline of what to expect in the college application process, including College Board profiles, lessons on using the Common App, and the list of colleges that already scheduled to visit York this fall.
Mrs. Stewart and Ms. Rooney thoughtfully prepared informational packets containing everything the parents would need to know in order to guide and encourage their children through this rather arduous procedure. In fact, to make the entire process just a bit easier, parents were given a tried-and-proven checklist (a.k.a. “Nag Letter”) created by Mrs. Stewart as a constant reminder of the tasks each senior must complete to get their applications in on time. Luckily, parents who were unable to attend the college night need not fret: this list (as well as other valuable information) can be found on Edline.
