Jayme Stewart, Director of College Guidance, founded York Prep in 1969 together with her husband, Ronald Stewart. Mrs. Stewart graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College and did graduate work at Columbia University while beginning her teaching career.
Mrs. Stewart literally wrote the book (and made the video) on choosing college. Her ideas expressed in How to Get into the College of Your Choice and How to Finance it (William Morrow & Co., 1991) have influenced guidance counselors and students nationwide. She has lectured and appeared on many occasions in newspapers and other media as an established expert on practical college guidance matters.
In addition to being Director of College Guidance for 45 years, Mrs. Stewart continues to play an integral role in shaping the educational programs and physical beauty of the school. She was the Head of the English Department for York Prep’s first ten years and is deeply involved in ensuring that the curriculum continues to be one of a challenging college preparatory standard.
Outside York Prep, she enjoys being a grandmother, travelling, and snorkeling. She ran a 118-acre horse breeding farm for many years, served as Master of Foxhounds, competed on horseback, and held a real estate license for 25 years. In North Salem, Westchester County, she ran for the office of Supervisor and was politically active in bringing real change to the Town’s governance.
Mrs. Stewart has personally helped to deliver 15 foals, 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 9 puppies.
