Sam Gordon

Education: Pomona College – B.A.; Fordham University – M.S.

Mr. Gordon is the proud grandson of Elaine, an English and Math Teacher, and Marjorie, an ESL teacher. He grew up in Irvington, NY and is a lifelong Mets fan. Before returning home to become a history teacher, Mr. Gordon spent six years in New Orleans, Louisiana, first teaching in a school garden and later facilitating spoken word poetry workshops.

Mr. Gordon believes the value of history is that it can teach us to live purposefully and responsibly in the present. He’s excited to bring years of grassroots organizing and civic engagement to bear as his students learn what it means to be informed, upstanding, and active citizens.

In addition to teaching, Mr. Gordon enjoys reading science fiction, writing short poems, and maintaining his collection of cast-iron cookware.
