French III is a review and consolidation of grammar and a continuation of reading and analyzing classic French literature. This course deepens students’ knowledge of grammatical constructions and ability to converse in French. Readings include cultural material and unabridged literature, current events, selected poems and fables, short stories, excerpts of representative works by various authors, and French magazines and films. At this level, students are expected to contribute freely to class discussions on the themes being studied. Typical literature covered includes Le Petit Prince by Saint-Exupèry and, possibly, a play by Ionesco. Each of the texts enables students not only to develop their French language skills, but also to deepen their awareness of French and Francophone culture and history.
