French II is a consolidation of all-material presented in past grades, an introduction to more complex grammar and vocabulary, and an exploration of additional culture and literature material from the Francophone world. The vocabulary is thematic, contextualized and organized, for the most part, around different themes of everyday life. Speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills are developed through class activities. Readings include cultural material from the text, simple literature excerpts from a French reader, short stories, poems, and French magazines. Typical literature selections include short stories by Guy de Maupassant, excerpts from La réclusion solitaire by Tahar Ben Jelloun, and Les misérables by Victor Hugo.
