Admissions

Welcome to York Prep Admissions! We’re glad that your quest for the right school has brought you here. York Prep is one of the best private schools in NYC. We have much to offer students, no matter where their interests lie.

Our middle school and high school academic programs are demanding without being intimidating, especially compared to other private schools in NYC. Students receive the support they need to excel in an atmosphere that is warm and caring. We take pride in the personal attention we give to every student’s needs and passions, guiding their paths to becoming independent adults of strong ethical character.

The York Prep admissions process gives as much weight to a child’s character as to academic achievement. We seek not only students who have already excelled but those who are eager for the opportunity to excel. We look for students who exhibit our core values: Caring, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, and Fairness. We value diversity of all kinds, and value it with more than words. A scholarship fund and outreach to a range of elementary and middle schools help assure economic and racial diversity. York Prep’s culture of acceptance makes it a place where it is recognized that everyone has something to contribute.

We look forward to your visit and to sharing our school with you.

York Prep offers a variety of open houses and school admissions events throughout the year, where you will learn about our academics, approach, activities, and more - including what makes us one of the most excellent private schools in NYC.

Application Process

York Prep seeks motivated students who can benefit from our challenging, personalized, and current curriculum. We give special weight to not only the academic accomplishments of students but also their personal character; students who share our values of caring, responsibility, trust, and fairness.

Applicants are urged to apply by January 15 for February notification. Applications received after this date will be considered only if there is space in the grade to which he or she is applying.

We are currently accepting applications for Grades 6-10. Please call the York Prep Admissions Office (212) 362-0400 if you are seeking admission for Grade 11.

Please contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you

School Visit

Upon receipt of the application, we will call you to set up a time for an interview at the school. This will be an opportunity for the parents and child to tour the school and meet with the Admissions Director.

Following the interview, the applicant is required to spend part of the day with one of our Student Ambassadors and experience a day at York Prep. The Admissions Office matches each applicant with a York Prep Student Ambassador. This peer contact creates a comfortable visit for the applicants, allowing them a glimpse of the academic and social life of York Prep.

Tuition/Financial Aid

Scholarships are awarded and held in recognition of merit and need. Students with scholarships will be expected to maintain a minimum average of 83% and to satisfy at all times the requirements of the school with respect to earnest application and constructive citizenship. Please note that re-application for scholarships must be made annually no later than December 15 for the following academic year.

We encourage highly qualified students to apply for scholarships, and we will make every effort to meet their needs.

For information on how to support scholarship efforts, please visit the York Prep Foundation page.
