What is the SGO?

The York Prep Student Government Organization (SGO) is made up of class representatives (grades 6-12) and a four-member executive board. Because York Prep is a small school, having four officers and class representatives works quite efficiently and effectively. Students participate in a democratic election for the SGO officers' positions at the end of each school year, and class representatives are chosen by students from a list of interested candidates. A Grade 6 class representative is chosen at the beginning of the new school year.

Role of the SGO

York Prep students run for the SGO because they are interested in pursuing the goals of the SGO. The role of the SGO is to make student life more well-rounded for all students at York Prep. With social functions such as dances and other activities that include Field Day, ice skating, collecting food and clothes for the needy, and raising funds for various charity organizations, the SGO helps to make members of the York Prep community a cohesive and giving group.

The York Prep SGO works hard each and every week by meeting once a week with their advisor, having weekly bake sales to collect funds for SGO-run activities, and participating in the various functions taking place in the school. The older SGO students also work on the prom. This year the SGO has organized various spirit days, such as a pep rally, Hat Day, Jersey Day, and Color Day.
