Classes at all levels are taking advantage of technology-enhanced learning:
- Biology 10 got a firsthand look inside a mitochondrion via a Web site exhibiting a 3-D dissection of animal and plant cells. Thanks also to an online simulation of cell activity and blood alcohol concentration students could see how alcohol damages the brain and liver.
- Using the WebQuest structure as a guide, 7th grade Math students produced multimedia magazines in which they wrote articles about mathematicians and researched careers involving math. They also created puzzles and challenge problems.
- PowerPoint presentation allowed eighth graders to share the product of their research on topics in 18th and 19th century American history.
- After reading The Crucible, juniors tapped into the Salem Witch Trials online database. This allowed them to compare Arthur Miller's historical fiction to testimony from actual witch trial court documents.
Technology has a definite role in helping to meet students’ educational needs, and York Prep is keeping pace among New York private schools, as the above activities exemplify. We strive to identify the most appropriate uses for technology in the classroom to make the educational experiences of all our students the best among private schools in New York City.
